Cornering of the Real Estate Market in Barbados - car-002a
Back Story.
Some independent real estate agents in Barbados believe that an organization called BEAVA (Barbados Estate Agents & Valuers Association Inc.) is working to influence the government to introduce legislation regulating agents and their business practices on the island*. This legislation would require agents to join BEAVA in order to participate in the real estate market.
Where does my company, On Eagles Wings Inc., fit into this? We are part of a sizeable network of independent agents collaborating to serve clients and facilitate property sales. Our operations remain independent of BEAVA.
After a discussion with a co-member of our group who was advised by a BEAVA member he should join the organization, I wrote the following.
--- --
My Good Friend,
What BEAVA is doing is nothing short of what is called Cornering the Market—and by approaching you they want our help to do it. They’re using this failing government to aid them in their agenda. At this rate, my great-great-grandchildren will be drowning in debt, struggling even more to survive in a Barbados corrupted by these unethical government practices.
I refuse to be part of creating a market that only a select few can access. If you join BEAVA it brings us under their control and, by extension, our group (indirectly and directly should all agents fall under BEAVA). For what purpose? To sell a house? To find a buyer or seller? I find their reasons for insisting everyone (registered agents) join BEAVA are weak and illogical.
My friend, do not let them manipulate you or seize control of what we’ve built. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: BEAVA members and registered agents should be free to join any group they choose, including ours. But it should never be mandatory to belong to one organization, stripping us of our right to operate independently as professional free agents.
As a people, we’re already struggling to survive under the weight of the damage these individuals have caused (government's direction). This would be another drive going deeper into the hole**. It must stop.
Love you, Bro.
By the way, if this country gets another loan I will have to add another "great" - Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren.
