Barbados my Home has become a Hole - car-001

The last time I wrote to you, I shared my thoughts on the cybercrime bill debacle and expressed how heavy my heart felt at the time. Since then, that heaviness has only deepened, leaving me feeling as though I am now living in a hole.

As a businessman, it is becoming increasingly difficult to live in this country—a place I now view as a hole. With the current state of affairs, even the nature of crime has taken on a strange and unsettling turn. I’ve reached a point where I’m seriously considering relocating my family to a new land.

I’ll keep this message as "brief" as I can, as I understand your time is valuable and you may not have much to spare for someone like me.

Businessman vs Politician

I grew up observing politicians and decided long ago that I did not want to become one. This sentiment extends beyond local politicians to include the Western political class as a whole. I often wonder if they ever truly consider or have the imagination of what it will be like when they stand before God.

Despite my resolve, I eventually got involved in politics and joined the APP party. Why? Because at the time, the political system on this island was destroying our way of life and I could not take it anymore. The people resisted change, and as a result, we are now stuck with what we have.

As a businessman, I wake up each day not just to think about making money, but also to find ways to help others step up and improve their lives. I channel my creativity and God-given abilities to develop ideas and opportunities, working hard to bring them to fruition.

Today, I am blessed with three grown children, two grandchildren, multiple properties, and several businesses. These are things to be enjoyed, but the reality of the "hole" I live in has become too deep and unbearable to ignore.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso is offering citizenship for the stolen children (we in the West were stolen during the days of slavery). His country is growing rapidly and making remarkable strides in development. Unlike many leaders, he is not a politician, and his vision is incredibly appealing.

Each day, on the other hand, a Western politician wakes up thinking about money—who to target next to extract it. Nowadays, landowners are the targets. If they can’t afford the ever-increasing “rent” disguised as land tax, their property is seized and sold to the highest bidder. (It’s worth noting that some Caribbean countries have managed to avoid this so-called land tax, though it’s likely only a matter of time before they are subjected to it). The borrowing of money for our great-grandchildren to be burdened with. It goes on and on.

Fines like $5,000 for parking in the wrong location or $100,000 for annoying someone under the guise of the cybercrime bill are just a few illustrations of what is called law. It is no longer about assisting and or deterring people, it is about destroying those who cross them.

What politicians conveniently call “law” has become nothing more than a perversion of justice. In contrast, Biblical law reflects love and righteousness (sin is hate). God will judge.

My Point.
The fundamental problem in this country is corruption. Whenever I establish a business relationship with someone, I start by sharing a video that addresses corruption. I bring it up right away. Why? Because problems shouldn’t be ignored—they need to be addressed from the outset.

If what I wrote here offends you, that’s not my concern. I am seriously considering relocating to Burkina Faso and keeping my options open. At 60 years old, I have lived a fulfilling life and achieved much. If I face a backlash now for writing this, it doesn’t matter. I have always said to people that I want to leave this beautiful Barbados in a better state (for my children) than I found it. Sadly, this has now become impossible (my present opinion).

I pray everyone well.

This is what I share with my new business partners. Let us put corruption in the rearview mirror.
